Nakha Tyey

Newars are the richest tribe of Nepal when it comes to festivals and celebrations. Out of 365 days of a year, they at least spend half of the year in celebrations and festivals. They are very rich in culture.

One of the festivals or more precisely it’s an occasion which is held at every newar’s home is “Nakha Tyey”. The word “Nakha” means “Chaad (festival). This Nakha Tyey is held by a newar family following a day or two when a festival is ended. Basically it can be regarded as a get together.

There are many people who visit a relative’s home and some could be easily left or they could have surely missed attention of any kind where they visit. To get rid of this, every house of a Newar community holds a Nakha Tyey to bring in their relatives and friends for a feast. This is just an occasion when all the relatives, friends and well wishers are invited letting them know that a good and happy festival just ended. Whenever a big festival is celebrated in a Newar community, it is followed by a Nakha Tyey.
