MLTR In Kathmandu

I remember passing the test exams before the final S.L.C. Board exams and it was one of my teacher s who had promised me to buy anything I would ask. So that was my opportunity of getting something as a reward for clearing my exams and it was a ‘Michael learns to rock’ album. We went to Newroad and there was this big music store called ‘Tik N’ Tok’ and he bought me that album. The one which rocked the top charts in the city was ‘that’s why you go away’ and I don’t remember how many times I repeatedly listened to that number. The another number was ‘the actor’ which I liked best because the song sings about a guy who has nothing but still hopes that his love would stay.

It was more than fifteen years back when I was in the tenth standard I had once dreamt of the band ‘Michael learns to rock’ talking to me. Back then they were a bit hit and ‘played on peppers’ was the most popular album in the top charts in different parts of the world. The number called ‘that’s why you go away’ stayed on the top position in our local charts for a long time. Foreign bands like MLTR could be in no way be expected to come and perform in Nepal because they may not have enough audience and no organizers could invest big capital for such shows. Few Indian artists used to come and the price of such shows would be beyond anyone’s affordability. People used to enjoy local bands concerts and gigs in those days. But things have changed and to a great deal. MLTR is coming to town to perform.

Now that I feel like my dream is turning into reality. Michael learns to rock would be here in town. I don’t want to miss the opportunity of hearing songs like ‘someday’ and ‘that’s why you go away’ live. It was Bryan Adams who should be credited for opening doors to the western high profiled singers and bands come to Nepal and perform. I have already bought a ticket to the concert but I’ll miss my special one 'yaal aaar'. She had planned to be here in town but sadly things did not go according to her. Had she been here I just can’t imagine the joy I could feel of having my special one by my side swinging to and fro to the ‘Michael learns to rock’ numbers. I’ll really miss her. I haven’t found any other friend to go with me, so I’ve decided that I’d go on my own and enjoy the concert with my special one in the back of my mind. Saturday’s not far away and I’m looking forward to a very good show.
