Song Of The School

normally don’t miss my school days but at this moment I’m listening to this song sung by a Pakistani singer Ali Haider which is taking me back to my school days. We used to sing this song aloud and wander around the cafeteria during our classes. There used to be some strict teachers with whom we had to hide in the toilets or under the table tennis boards. If we ever had to be busted by those teachers we would be taken to the headmaster’s office resulting in some lectures and whipping at the same time.

The only incident which has a long lasting impression on me is the one when a new science teacher was appointed for our class. We already had a number of teachers switched and in that particular year we had eight different science teachers. Then there was this young teacher who was accompanied by our previous science teacher for his very first observation class. We were the first batch of students to this new teacher and we somehow developed a strong bond between us. He really seemed to be disturbed in those days as we could read it in his face. He did not have enough courage to pour or share his feelings but one day the barrier broke down. He confessed that he recently ran away with a girl and that his as well as his bride’s sides were totally against their marriage. In this very instant the whole class went silent and as kids we were back then, had nothing to tell him or comfort him. Right at that time one of our friends stepped out of his sit and ran away out of the class. The class along with the teacher was stunned by this manner less act. After a couple of minutes the guy knocked at the door and he had brought a bouquet of fresh flowers plucked from the garden. He handed the bouquet over to the teacher and congratulated him for his conjugal life. The whole class gave away a round of big applause.

Besides this particular incident I never think of my school days and right now this song called ‘purani jeans’ is reminding me of those days.
