Running a social organization is not that easy as it seems. There are many obstacles and challenges in keeping a social organization active. First of all convincing the society is the most difficult task that a social organization has to face. Convincing in this sense means some kind of solid proof that the organization is established to obtain the committed and pre determined goals.
I too am engaged in a small social organization which works in the upliftment of our neighbourhood back in the village. Though nothing much worthy have been done in the past couple of years but we have managed to organize small programs which have helped the organization to have its presence felt. We have organized two conferences within the time period of three years and the basic object of the conference is just to assure our villagers who have been in the capital on different purposes of our unity. We would help each other in times of need.
The idea of establishing this organization came from a man who is now the president. There had been an incident in the valley; someone from our village had been here in the capital for quite a few months. Her sons were working somewhere in the capital and sadly she met an untimely death. To perform the rituals on her death there was no one, not even enough people who would help her sons carry the corpse to the cemetery. This incident is the sole reason for the existence of our organization. And eventually some five to six people gathered and formed an organization registered under the Nepal government Act.
One of the most trustworthy campaigns we had successfully done is the fund raising campaign to help a paralysis victim back in the village. Though it took a lot more of time than required, we successfully handed him a cheque of hundred twenty one thousand one hundred and one rupees to the sick. Though that amount may not be of very big help but we hope it will be sufficient to raise his daughter or start a small business which would generate income to meet his family’s daily needs.
Apart from this we have so far generously donated some cash to some other organizations of our likes. The F.M. station back in the village, a library in our neighbouring village comes under our list of clients whom we have financially helped.
We have further plans but then again there are a lot of hindrances. Holding a general meeting in itself is a challenge as members of the organization show different excuses and they do not attend the meeting. Getting the required quorum is the biggest problem in such meetings and passing the bill of some important tasks is always a problem.
So far, the move of our organization is satisfactory as it has been able to bring all the villagers who live scattered in the capital yet don’t have the time and opportunity to meet. We have very big dreams and we all are committed in remaining in the society for a long time, trying to give something to our motherland back in our village.
