Reading

Reading is real fun and it’s more than watching televisions. Because when you watch television, you keep on switching channels and on most occasions you never watch everything fully. And at times you are intervened by commercials which make it more disgusting. But reading a book needs concentration and the mind is fully focused on that very book only.

I have never ever read a whole book in my life apart from few short stories by O. Henry. Some years ago I read “Hammer of Eden” which I never completed. At that time I was very much interested in indulging myself in the world of books, novels and stories, so I picked up “Hammer of Eden” which was just lying around our room. It was a nice one but I could not concentrate on it and thus could never finish it.

Lately, I finished a whole book which could perhaps be taken as my personal achievement. The book was called “To Kill A Mockingbird”. The narrator of the story is a small girl and the children’s mentality and psychology is very well portrayed in this particular story. I love small kids and probably that helped me read the whole book. I had even told one of my friends that I was reading “To Kill A Mockingbird” at present, and the response was quite funny from her I guess. She had never heard that name before and the title seemed lousy to her.

I did not choose that book with good reasons, but as usual, I just picked it from a pile of other books which belonged to my sister. And just a couple of day back, when I was browsing wikipedia.com, I saw “To Kill A Mockingbird” featured in the home page and some information on it. This book won some award and there were reviews and comments on the book. I felt proud and I boasted to myself, “I have read this book”. It was quite an experience which made me feel good at least for some hours.
