The hottest buzz in town is about an eleven year old boy saving a child who fell down a gorge. The media highlighted the bravery of the small boy and yes it was a courageous act indeed. What we here have neglected is the effort made my well trained and qualified professionals.
When the incident took place, the locals as well as the police team members tried to rescue the baby. No one was able to bring the child from the gorge where she had fallen. Then was the time when five people from the capital were brought into this operation. These four guys immediately left for Pokhara from Kathmandu soon after hearing the story. The rescue team was on the way to Pokhara.
Later when they reached Pokhara, they gave all what it takes to save that little child. Their physical structure was the only obstacle between them and the child in this rescue operation. Suddenly a small boy shows up and the professional rescue team after some agreement helped the child go down. This team which had come all along the way from Kathmandu had all the necessary equipments. They then lowered the boy and thus he was able to crawl through in to the place where the child was trapped. Slowly they lifted both the child and the boy who dared to go down, to a safe place. Upon reaching to the safe place, everyone present in the scene applauded to the boy and thus the boy was a hero. There were media persons, well wishers, locals and commoners who all cheered the boy.
Meanwhile the rescue team was still inside the gorge struggling to come back to the top. It took almost an hour or so before they finally came back to the top. When they arrived, there was no one at the site. Everyone would have probably followed the boy cheering and chanting his name. These professionals did not have any one who would give a hand even to pack their equipments. After packing their equipments themselves they headed towards the hotel where they had been staying.
They turned on the television only to see the breaking news regarding the boy who saved the child. The names of the professionals could be seen and heard nowhere. Instead the news simply kept on saying, “Professional rescuers could not save a child but a small lad did it”. Every channel they flicked, the news was about the small lad who saved the child. So these rescuers talked to each other for a while and indulged themselves in the Euro 2008 and went to sleep.
It would have been impossible for anyone to rescue the child in absence of those professionals. I hereby would like to draw attention to everybody not to forget the effort of these professionals. It is a courageous act of that small eleven year old boy but still, we can’t ignore how hard these professionals have worked. Hats off to the rescue team and congratulations to the eleven years old boy who dared to go down the gorge.
